Nagarjuna Thangka

This stunning Thangka depicts Arya Nagarjuna, the 2nd-century Indian philosopher and founder of the Madhyamaka (Middle Way) school of Mahayana Buddhism. Often referred to as the "Second Buddha," Nagarjuna is celebrated for his profound teachings on Shunyata (Emptiness).

Combining traditional iconographic precision with a vibrant, modern aesthetic, this Nagarjuna thangka is a perfect centerpiece for meditation spaces or art collections.

Nagarjuna is instantly recognizable by the seven-headed cobra canopy (Nagas) rising above his head. According to legend, the Nagas protected him and gifted him the Perfection of Wisdom sutras from the depths of the ocean.  He is shown in the Dharmachakra Mudra (the gesture of Turning the Wheel of Dharma), signifying his role as a master teacher who clarified the Buddha's ultimate intent. Rendered in intricate gold linework, his saffron robes represent the simplicity and discipline of the monastic path.
