Manjushri Thangka
Manjushri means Gentle Voice. He is the Buddha of wisdom. In fact at religious centers around the world, monks, nuns, and scholars recite his mantra when they are having trouble in school, or issues with their memory!
This thangka, painted with stone mineral paint, depicts Manjushri cutting the lake which once comprised the Kathmandu Valley. Legend has it that the valley, once a lake, was transformed into habitable land by Manjushri. He is said to have used his sword of wisdom to cut a gorge at Chobhar, allowing the lake's waters to drain away and create the fertile valley.
Manjushri's mantra is Om Ah Ra Pa Dza Na Dhih.
